September 2003 - Platinum Europe Awards

October 3, 2003

In September, three albums received European Platinum awards for sales of one million or more across the territory.

Bob Marley & The Wailers, probably the most successful reggae outfit of all time, sees 1995 compilation album Natural Mystic - The Legend Lives On honoured with its first Platinum Award. Suffused with equal measures of spirituality and militancy, with first track Natural Mystic setting the tone, songs include Crazy Baldheads, War, So Much Trouble In the World, and a live version of Trenchtown Rock.

Simply Red's Home, the band's first new studio album in over three years, was released on their own label in March this year. A sparkling reminder, if one was needed, of Mick Hucknall's wonderful voice, the album mixes original new tracks including title track Home and single Sunrise with cover versions including Money In My Pocket and You Make Me Feel Brand New. Home has achieved its first Platinum Europe Award for sales of over one million, joining previous Simply Red Platinum Europe winners Greatest Hits (PEx3), Life (3) Blue (1) and Love And The Russian Winter (1).

The Eagles The Very Best Of The Eagles has achieved a double Platinum Europe Award. The 2001 release is a digital remastering of the 1994 release, which achieved its first Platinum Europe Award in 1996. One of These Nights, Take It Easy, Hotel California and New Kid In Town are just some of the best known and best loved songs on this compilation.
