IFPI Statement on David Fine

August 31st, 2005

David Fine was a member of the Board of IFPI from 1987 to 1998, serving as Chairman from 1991 to 1998. He was awarded an IFPI medal for distinguished service in 1998. He brought to the organisation extensive knowledge of the music industry and strong financial and leadership skills. Widely respected by IFPI staff members, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

John Kennedy, IFPI Chairman and CEO said: "David Fine's contribution to the success of the recording industry during the '80s and '90s is greatly underestimated. He brought a great business vision and an understanding of the dynamics needed for the industry to prosper. He knew his own strengths and weaknesses and forged strong management teams around him, giving them the freedom to operate and create. He also knew that it was important for the whole industry to speak with one voice and he worked hard to ensure that this happened and that that voice was heard globally and consistently."

David Fine died on Sunday, August 28 at the age of 76.
