IFPI 'disappointed' by Napster proposal

London, February 21, 2001 - IFPI General Counsel Allen Dixon issued the following statement in the wake of Napster's settlement proposal yesterday.

"We are disappointed that Napster has resorted to a tactic which is little more than a public relations gambit.

"IFPI believes Napster should comply with the court order and stop offering infringing files to the public. This would create the right environment to discuss the negotiation of licenses and the development of legitimate business models."

IFPI represents over 1,400 record producers and distributors in 76 countries. It also has national groups in 46 countries. IFPI Secretariat is based in London and linked to regional offices in Brussels, Hong Kong, Miami and Moscow.
